Root Canal Instrumentation

Price: $497

Length: 90 minutes

Modules: 13

Description: Root canal instrumentation is considered by many to be the most technique sensitive aspect of root canal treatment. After all, it’s also where most challenges are encountered. This course has been designed to teach technical canal instrumentation as a systematic and methodical process. In this course, Dr. Nudera outlines a detailed, structured, and sequenced approach to canal management. He clearly explains the concepts of canal instrumentation, and shows you the techniques required to mastered the skill. By following Dr. Nudera’s well defined protocols, you will not only learn the tools needed to safely navigate the root canal system, but you will also gain valuable troubleshooting skills for those more challenging root canal instrumentation scenarios.

Introduction to Root Canal Instrumentation

This section begins the root canal instrumentation process. First, understand the purpose and goals of canal instrumentation. Then, Dr. Nudera will tell you all you need to know about your endodontic files and help you identify the specific file types best suited to navigate and shape the root canal system.

The Four Phases of Root Canal Instrumentation

In this section, Dr. Nudera will define the four phases of root canal instrumentation and introduce you to his "Zones of File Advancement" concept.

Initial Canal Negotiation: Steps 1-4

Phase 1 of root canal negotiation consists of 6 steps. In this section, Dr. Nudera will walk you through steps 1 through 4 and provide a formula that can be used to calculate case difficulty.

Initial Canal Negotiation: Step 5

Phase 1 of root canal negotiation continues with step 5, orifice modification. In this section, Dr. Nudera discusses the purpose and benefits of modifying the canal orifice early in the canal instrumentation process.

Initial Canal Negotiation: Step 6, Part 1

Step 6 marks the final step of our Phase 1 root canal negotiation. In this section, Dr. Nudera defines the only two tactile sensations you need to know when the file does not readily reach the apex and describes various techniques to overcome the sensation of quick file binding.

Initial Canal Negotiation: Step 6, Part 2

Step 6 continues as Dr. Nudera discusses the hard file stop. In this section, he will explain why hard file stops exist and how to determine their type. Dr. Nudera will then show you a technique that can be used to manage canal blockages from excess shaping debris.

Initial Canal Negotiation: Step 6, Part 3

In this section, Dr. Nudera continues discussing the hard file stop and introduces two techniques for managing canal ledges and challenging canal anatomy— Strategic File Bending and the WOTS technique.

Establishing Working Length

Phase 2 of root canal instrumentation begins with the establishment of a confirmed working length. In this section, Dr. Nudera discusses the best methods for determining the location of the apical foramen and how to read the electronic apex locator.

Troubleshooting the EAL

In this section, Dr. Nudera will help you understand why the electronic apex locator may not always work as expected and discusses troubleshooting methods to help overcome erratic readings.

The Dynamic Working Length Concept

In this section, Dr. Nudera introduces the "Dynamic Working Length" concept. He will explain why our working length value is not just a number we should be working to but a number we should be working around.

Guide Path Development

In the section, Dr. Nudera discusses the importance of creating a preliminary canal shape for our future, larger engine-driven instruments to follow. Then, learn a predictable 2-step method for developing a smooth and reproducible guide path.

Creating the Final Shape

Phase 4 marks the last phase of the root canal instrumentation process. Learn two different strategies that can be used to develop a final canal shape — the File System approach and the Single File approach.
